Ducks Week 6- Out in the pen

Today the ducks get to experience a different type of freedom in the pen. We had open up the fence again and insert the chicken coop into the pen. The busybody chooks quickly went to inspect and made themselves at home. After all, it is their old home. Without any invitation, they have start eating the duck food and drinking from their water bowl.

And of cos, how can any inspection be carried out without the elder Nasty Pasty and Feisty.

The ducks were immediately shown the big open space and they are not shy at all, walking around the pen athough they quickly found a safe haven in the corner.

Geeze...Little need to cover up his beak when he yawn. Yes.. we think it might be a "he" for it has been making funny crooking sound, almost like he's having asthma.

And Stripy wants to have a go too! the ducks did not get much chance to warm their bottoms.

First Stripy flew up to the top of the coop while the rest watch (didn't managed to get a picture of this). Next Mandy wants to be high too.

The the rooster decided it wants to be a man too and show off. (after a few unsuccessful attempts, witness by the hens and ducks )

So, I believe the ducks are happy with this new arrangement, they are always wagging their tails. Being a duck is great (except when you are being eaten), just spend the day slacking, grooming and eating. Of cos, our ducks always put on their best (timid) behavior when Inspector Feisty is always just around the corner.

Spring is here and so is my veggie garden

I took some pictures over the weekend and I better post them quick before I get questioned about the veggies.

Special thanks to Mr and Mrs Moon for sponsoring these vegetables for my veggie garden, the ones that I started in a tray did not make it (one or two of them might have a slight chance).

Craig's gone to get some good soil 3 weeks ago and we had place the seedlings into ground. They are doing very well with the aid of the seaweed solution as well.

We had created 4 rows and put irrigation along it.

First row are the silver beets.

2nd row are the capsicums, which are looking so not well compare to others. It's the smallest of the lot, not sure if it is lacking nutrients or that is just how it is.

3rd row are the beetroots and most of them are growing good.There's a couple of smaller ones right in the middle.

Last row are the broccolis, which are the healthiest looking ones.

I've also started some new seedlings which are pak choy, lettuce and i can't remember the 3rd one! Oops....hopefully this 2nd attempt will have better results. I've given the seedlings some seaweed solution as well. The ducks have created so much yuck in their sleeping area, we end up with alot of duck "mulch" which i used it for the garden. Those poo better be of good use.

Duckling Week 5

Week 5 and I guess they should be called Ducks now instead of ducklings. These ducks are getting their adult feathers and their wings structure is beginning to show.

Today is a warm day so one of the duck is more adventurous and decided to take a dip and enjoy the water.

The ducks had been lazy all day....resting in the sun and in the shade...

5 weeks old and they are still very timid. Each time they see us 200m away, they will start squeaking and oh yes, one of them start quacking at us too. They will push themselves and each other into a corner and behave like ducks that had gone mental! Don't think these ducks are driven by food because lettuce doesn't make them any more tamed.

Duckling Week 4

Week 4 and these ducklings are getting big. I can see their adult feathers growing. Their legs and wings are getting bigger and they are still very timid. We've got 6 now after giving 6 to Craig's mum last week.

There was rain last night and this morning, the duck pen is wet and muddy. I'm sure the ducklings will love the wet mud but i'm concerned about hygiene. So I've decide to give their pen a little revamp. I filled the sand ground with straws and place weeds (sponsored by Sandy yesterday )above the straw. Filled up a tub with water and added some bricks as little steps for the ducklings to get in. Replace their water container with a heavy mixer bowl so they can have more space in the pen. It's also to see if this might be cleaner option. Sit their food container on 2 bricks so stop them from spilling food everywhere. This is later confirmed a failed attempt.:(

The ducklings decided to come out of their "bed" and I think they are quite surprise and happy with the greens. They started eating the weeds and soon figured it's not as easy as they think. It looks like they are drooling weeds. In an attempt to bond with them, I sat beside them reading for some time. They seem calm but decided not to do anything else but rest. Seems like they like their grass bedding and sunlight alot because they pretty much just lay there the bulk of their day.

I also chopped up some tomatoes for them and they (or some) seem to like it. It's meant to be good for them.

Duckling Big Day Out & Chooks Big Day In

The ducklings are on the way to destroy their lovely paper home with their messy eating and drinking. So Craig had decided out they go. There a little bit of poultry movement required. We had to move all the younger chooks into the pen and move the ducklings into the coop.

so in went the chooks, ready to brave Feisty, Timid and Sickie(not so timid and sick anymore.....we have renamed them to Nasty Pasty 1 and 2 ). They will have to learn to share the food, water and sleep together in the new home Craig had built.

And in went the ducklings! they seem to love the open air and sunlight. I have them a small bath and yes, messy as usual. Some ducklings were eventually falling into the bath and having a mini splash.

Day 2 and more ducklings hatched! When we checked this morning, 1 more were hatched during the
night!

The older ducklings are now yellow and fluffy and getting familar with their new home.They started eating, drinking and making a stinky mess as well!

During the day, 4 more hatched during the day!! We have 11 cute ducklings now. Can't resist cuddling and petting them....

Ducklings Hatch Day 1

Today we await the exciting event of watching our duck eggs hatched. We got them about 30days ago and the countdown began. Ducks take a longer time (about 1 week) to hatch compared to chicks. They will stay fluffy longer as well.

This is a great experience as it will be our 1st time being duck "parents"! The ducklings started pipping yesterday and this afternoon we witness the 1st duckling hatched. It was amazing watching the little one struggled its way through, pushing and wriggling. I reckon ducklings takes more effort to hatch than chicks because they have a longer neck and legs, which are folded up when they are in the egg. Ducklings also made a squeaking noise rather than chirping sound. They also squeak lesser compare to chicks.

1st duck hatched at 3.30pm. It had a little struggle trying to push itself out of its shell. What a champion!

Around 4.30pm (we did not witness its birth), the 2nd duckling was hatched...This one makes more squeaking sound than the 1st duck...

3rd duckling was hatched around 7.30pm.

Chicks are 5 weeks old!!!

Our 7 chicks are growing fast and quick. They are consuming their food quickly and has taken a LOVE to bread.

We also had a few busybody chicks, always wanting to know what's out there!

Craig had put in a new perch for them and the chickies are showing their gratitude quick!

You can see Stripy standing up and Little sitting down. Little couldn't sit on the perch because of its feet.

One white with black feathers with no comb

This might be a part bantam. it has feathers on its feet. It has the best hairstyle among the 7 of them and I called it Elvis.

Stripy is now bigger as well and its watermelon body is over taken by its feathers. You can still see the stripe on its eye.

Little was the one born 2 days little, at week 3 we discover it's feet is deformed. Little can't sit on a perch so it's always sleeping alone, laying down.

Today, we bought saw dust for the chicks because they keep eating their own poo and it stinks! They loved the saw dust once we put it in. It's soft on their feet and 2 white chicks start dusting themselves madly!

They were staying together and keeping close to one another. Tomorrow they will be 4 weeks old!

The 3 elder ladies were mindful of them as well, keeping an eye on them from a distance.

Moving to a bigger home

Today I got the chickies a brand new home. It's bigger and more spacious.

The chickies were unsure when they first move into their palace..but it didn't take them long to figure things out. Soon they were jumping and flying around in their new palace!

The young ones are surviving winter well. A home made heater had been made for them they are getting along well together with one another. Only 2 weeks old and they are eating alot and pooing alot. We had to change new bedding for them each night. Very soon we will have to get them into a bigger home.

Chicks Hatch Day - Day 4 20May

We tried putting "Little" chick #7 together with the rest yesterday morning but it was been pecked and bullied. So we decided to let it stay in the incubator for another day to get stronger.

Today, I place "Little" together with the rest of the chicks and monitored.... All chicks started pecking on "Little" and "Little" peck back. For some reason, they love to peck each other eyes. :Little" doesn't seem to be well accepted by the rest, they leave "Little" on its own, all 6 chicks slept and huddle together and "Little" slept on its own...It's obvious "Little" is smaller in size too, perhapes that's why it did not get into the rest of the gang.

At one day old, they are cute, still wobbling around and sleeps alot! They also get distracted at the slightest sound... The most interesting sight is seeing them nod themselves to sleep and wake up suddenly when they hear a sound. 2seconds later, they are nodding themselves to sleep again!

Today is hatch day...it's also Priscilla's birthday!

Woke up at 8.15am and I can hear chirping sound...Off I went to check on the eggs and surprise surprise, there's a new born!

Let's trace back what time this chick is born.....

wobble wobble and off to sleep again....this chick was sleeping and waking up almost every 30seconds....

And while we are eager about the new born....we have not neglected the oldies...Craig got some hay and wheat for the 3girls and boy are they excited!

We should have done the candling last week to check on the eggs but we only them yesterday. It was an amazing experience witnessing the little movements happening inside the eggs. There should be 3 or 4 possible chicks and we are not sure about the rest. Papa Hen decided to keep all the eggs in the incubator until this Thursday, hoping for some miracles......

This Thursday we will stop rotating the eggs and increase the humidity in the incubator, making it ready for the chicks to hatch. We will be counting down to Sunday, hopefully we can witness the hatching process, where the little newborns will peek their way into Mother Earth....

Papa Hen

A new toy had arrived and it's Craig's new incubator. Off to Oakford to get some fertiled eggs today. I've only got 12 eggs and we placed them into the incubator. Chicks will hatched in 21days if they are successful. There is alot of work involved being a Papa Hen. Craig had to wash his hens...opps hands each time before he rotates the eggs. Mother hens will do it naturally but Papa Hen has to do it manually each morning and evening. The temperature of the incubator has to be well maintained at 37degrees as well.

After the 1st week, we can candle the eggs and see if the chicks are forming or not. Unsuccessful eggs should be removed to avoid "affecting" other healthy eggs.

It will be really interesting to see what breeds we get from these 12 eggs and how many will be successfully. The lady who sold us the eggs has serveral breeds and she has no idea which are the breeds we got.

Potato Egg!

Today, there is a shocking discovery when I went to collect the eggs. There is a huge egg and I mean HUGE! It is like a potato!! We measured the egg against the other one in the nest and it is a difference of 3cm!

we were guess there must be 3-4 yolks in the egg, and guess what when we crack it open!!

There is another egg in the big potato egg!! This is seriously cool! Poor chook though........

My guess is still right, I still get 3 egg yolks! :))

Christmas Geese

Today we had to brave the burning steaming sun and travel to buy some geese for Craig's mum birthday.

The seller said the geese were 3months old and they are not honking.

There is no way this is 3 months! And they honk all the time when the crows fly past!

These geese are not use to human at all, each time you go near them, they hissed at you and run away. I definately would say my chooks are smarter than these geese. All these geese do is to stand and stare or walk/sit in groups. Great team spirit but definately no talent for being cute and cuddly.

Chook being a busy body. The chooks are often jealous of the geese, wanting all the geese's scraps when they have a big bucket of food.

Week 17 (15 Dec 2009) and a proud Mama!

Today I made an amazing discovery. The chooks were crocking so loudly when I was making breakfast. It was much louder than usual and they don't usually make much sound in the morning. So I thought I had better go have a look (thinking one might be dead!)

When I open the chook pen's door, to my surprise, I found TWO eggs on the ground!! I'm so proud of the chooks that I just grab one and hug it (not sure if she had just laid any). So 2 out of 3 had laid their 1st egg today. One of it was tiny! It was only slightly bigger than a quail egg. Craig said it might have been laid yesterday because it is not warm but I'm very sure I did not see eggs yesterday.

Later this evening, just out of curiosity, I went to check again and let the chooks out as well. I found another egg!!! This is amazing, all 3 chooks laid their 1st egg today. Small but at least they did not eat or destroy their eggs. This is a good start. Hopefully the eggs will become bigger in the next few eggs.

Took some great pictures of the chooks today. They love to rest outside the house. Perhapes it is the carpet, perhapes it is the view into the house, perhapes they like the human company. Who knows!

I caught Feisty sleeping! It was "awwwwww............"

You can see Feisty's eyes open because she heard the camera's focus sound.

That's when they are not noisy...

My chooks love sunflowers seeds, but they are not intelligent enough to realise they have to flip it over sometimes to get the seeds

and yes, they are confused where the seeds have gone to....

Yep, it doesn't take long to finish the whole sunflower.

Neighbours from pubs

Last weekend we had new neighbours. This entire week, it felt like living in a backpacker's lounge area, where there will be plently supply of loud music, screams and "throwing bottles into bins" jing.

Tonight , I get bings and bangs from drumsets, more screams(from girls of cos), and not to mention, the nice neighbours has also supply me with live radio.

I am definately much fortunate and luckier than my chooks, the girls have to put up with the neighbours till they decide to go to bed each night. Poor chooks, might have to bring them for a hearing test in future.

What's the best way to deal with neighbours from pubs?

Shocking Discovery : My chooks doesn't like to eat black hairy caterpillas!!

This is terrible because one of the reasons to get chooks is to eat up all the hairy caterpillas that will always come in summer time. I had collected some for the chooks yesterday and thinking "Here's your feast!" and one took a bite and spit it out again!!! poof goes my heart.....another chicken came along and have a taste and go "Nup...." and they walked away....

This is so upsetting!!!

A Close Shave!

The 3 chooks went to the back of the house this morning and only 2 came back. After an investigation, we found Sickie! She had went under the fence and got into the neighbour's garden. Craig tried to get the chook back but it made the dog mad. It came charging and poor Sickie was hiding in a corner. The dog kept barking and the neighbour came out to see what's going on. He then drag his dog away but did not help us to get our chook back. So I had to try to lure Sickie with a piece of bread. I think frozen bread has no smell because the chook missed seeing the bread and continued roaming happily(now that the dog is gone).

Craig had to jump the fence to get Sickie back and the neighbour came charging out again. He probably thinks we are trying to steal his "pot plant".

I didn't see any of the above because I was too short to see anything. :) Craig is the story teller.

Sickie could have been the dog's yummy lunch today.

We still have to fix up the gaps at the fences. So for the time being, we've blocked the passage way to the back for the silly birds to roam around freely.

Chickens 11 weeks old !!

Lots of things happening since my last post 2 weeks ago. The girls are happily settled in their new home that is proudly made in WA.

The chooks are definately getting bigger (can tell by their massive poo!) and they are often showing off their flying skills. It's called landscape flying.

There's plenty of improvement that can be done to their chookpen version1.0. Like adding handles and hinges so I don't have to hold up the door with a stick. Give them a proper perch in their nesting section. Put in a door in their roaming area so we can slide food in easily. Perhapes version 2.0 will be delivered when Craig has the inspiration.

I gave them some left over salad (lettuce, carrots, tomoates, eggs, cheese) but they seem to not like it at all. In fact, it remain untouched. I also give them some celery leaves today as well and yes, I was ignored. Who says chooks eat everything???

I'll tell you what they love eating- Leaves. They have happily munched off the leaves on my chilli plant, the leaves on the strawberries and baby lettuce! They sure know how to pick fresh grown leaves.

Chickens 9 weeks old

Feisty. She has a dark brown beak. She doesn't stand still so Craig has to hold on to her to get a snap shot.

Sickie. She still has some little down feather on her neck. Lately she has been gaping and when she does that, her throat shiver as well. We went to get some poulty dust and poulty dewormer from the pet store for them. Not sure if their head shaking is caused by mites and lice but it is a suspected cause.

Timid. She is the smallest among the three of them. And she doesn't have a brown beak or down feathers on her neck, so that is how we identify her. Timid, as her name says is always the following the crowd and whenever there's treat, like bread given to them, she will have her food snatched from her beak. Poor girl bullied by her sisters.

We are almost done with the chook pen. I have painted the exterior of the pen and Craig had finish one side of the pen's door. It will be hinged on the top and it will be a "lift-out" door. The section further away in the picture will be the chicks roaming area and on the rear end will be their nesting area. Spot the little square door which acts as the opening way.

Trust me, it's very hard work builting your own chook pen but its very satisifying as well. We are left with the one door to built, put in the wheels for mobility and stick in the perch, close it up with wire and we are all done (I think!). Hopefully you will get to see the end result in next week's post.

Chickens - 8 weeks and 2nd Big Day Out (plus Videos!)

Today we have capture the chickens roaming and post it online. You will be able to see it shortly below. It seems like the chickens are having better poo shape and color (hard and dark) after a run outside their palace. Craig is also busy with the chook pen. It's starting to take some shape but there's more work to be done.

The chickens are getting fatter as well. Right now I can identify them and hence they are called Timid, Sickie and Feisty!!

PIXAR Movie 'UP'

We went to watch the movie this morning at Hoytes Cannington. Love watching movies at hours where there's the least crowd.

I am an absolute fan of PIXAR movies and once again, PIXAR has not disappoint me at all. The movie UP is a touching, funny and meaningful additional to the great movies PIXAR had done. It tells the story of how an old man failed to realise his beloved wife's dreams when she was still alive and one day, decided to go for it. He floats his entire house on balloons and went after the promise he made to his wife who had passed away. I shall not give away too much because this movie is definately worth seeing. (In the cinemas!)

Moral of the story I had learnt is that you will find true happiness when you finally learn to let go.

To PIXAR: Well done again!

Today the chicks are 7 weeks old and we decide to let them have some fun in the garden. So we cut their wings to stop them from flying over the fences and release them into the garden. At first they seems confused with the open and stood there motionless for a couple of minutes. One decide to move and explore and the rest followed along. Soon they were enjoying themselves and happily roaming around the entire garden. The chicks get a taste of "wild food" such as leaves and millipedes.

The chicks are getting big for their palace and Craig is working hard to build them a BIGGER palace!!

Unfortunately my camera is not working well so I couldn't capture the chicks big day out in videos. But here are some pictures taken with my SLR.

Hmm, I wonder if we should stop calling them chicks now that they are more like a "teenager". The chicks are losing most of their down feathers and the box seems rather small for them now. They are eating much more and their poo is longer !!

One of the chick seems to be sick, she keeps shaking her head still and starting gapping. We have started to clean up their home every night to keep it cleaner. For some reason, they seem to like eating their own poo.

Went to city farmers tonight to get them some sulfadimidine. Hopefully this will help them to recover from the suspected pneumonia.

Another fantastic event of the year.

I have decided not to take any pictures this year because 1. its will be raining and 2. I have decided to purely enjoy myself without have to capture everything I see.

Showbags variety is rather disappointing this year, which is good for my wallet. Only bought 3 showbags and one of them is Woman's Weekly, which is rather disappointing.

First time ever, watching fireworks in the rain. Not a warm experience but still a memorable one :)

Chicks - 5 weeks and still growing!

The chicks are growing bigger and bigger each day. They are not scared of us anymore, in fact, each time I put my hand into the box, they are ready to aim and attack my hand, thinking its food.

We've added a new "toy" for the chicks. It's a carrot hanging from the top, let's see what happen in a few days time. I've also introduce kiwi fruit to them. They seem to like it so far.

Over the weekend, we went down to Busselton and got them a new feeder, for when they are in the garden and also some new "adult" food. Prices are definately cheaper.

Well done Stuart and Team! Where should I start....?

I wasn't excited at all that I have to spent my entire weekend in a ball room listening to someone speak. I have no idea what the agenda is going to be except with the promise that it will not be a "ra-ra" show. Having to get up earlier than usual had made me cranky on Sat morning. I told Craig, " If this is crap, we should leave during the 1st break", like what we did to another speaker who held his event in the Perth Exhibition Center. Massive auditorium. Absolute overboard "ra-ra" show.

I remember you asked us to tell the person beside us why we are at your event. My first and only answer was to provide moral support for Craig. I guess that statement wasn't very impressive hey! By 10.30am I was looking at my watch at least every 1minute to see what time are you going to release us for a break as I was bloody starving! When you finally open the door to release us and let us out, Craig said, " We can leave if you want" and I replied, " Nah.....let's see what he got next".

And that changes my weekend. I shan't go into the details to bore my readers to sleep. The only thing I will say is, I am glad and grateful that I have given myself a chance and given you a chance too. I had purchase 2 programs from the weekend and I have faith that it will work for me(even though I had not started on anything yet). The one thing you said during the "Pay It Forward" night tells me I am right to give you a chance. If you want more of my type of people to stay for your event, keep it personal. If ever one day, you become famous and the demand for events grow, keep it personal. There is nothing worse than spending your time in a big auditorium with thousands of people doing "ra-ra" activities every 15minutes. Keep the audience close to your heart and the audience will always be with you.

Thank you for your stories and gifts. Wish I had won the TV though as my TV is broken.

Lastly, I don't think your lovely Mum left you..... instead she is just watching you from above now. :)

Chicks - 4 Weeks old

My goodness!!! What a big difference from 3 weeks to 4 weeks. These hot chicks are getting bigger, fatter and smellier. They are flying around in their palace and having bigger poos!! Their diet has increase a lot too.

This week Craig feed them apple. They don't seem to like it at the beginning but if you stick their chick start on the apple, they will attack it as if they had starved for days. Weird brains.....

The chicks are also starting to get their brownish feathers, right now they look like they are having a bad hair day every single day!

I noticed one of them is shaking her head very vigorously all the time, especially when she is trying to sleep. A search on Google says she could have caught a cold or its just a normal thing. After observing a few days, it does seem like she's fine. Still pretty active and noisy.

What can I say.... my babies are turning into teens now... :)

and a couple days ago I found a poo right outside the palace!!! how on earth did it get out of the box?? did the chick aim its bottom at the hole and shit????

Craig had decided to build the chicks a new "house"....a palace where they are fly about, see the outside world and have a perch to stand on. Didn't take long to do it and the end result is stunning. Now the chicks can see us and we can see them easily. Hopefully it will increase our bonds....

I had forget to mention in my last week's post that the chicks were 2 weeks old. This one week had been torturing for the nose. The chicks' poo stink and they (for some reason unknown) poo into their food container and drink container. Craig had been trying to make a water dispenser and failed the 1st few times. The final one seems to work fine.

The chicks seems to be getting bigger too, they are eating lots, well..... I think they enjoy stepping on their food container and throwing the food everywhere and then going hunting for it. We also notice that they do not rest for a long period. They would sit down for about 5-10secs and starting walking around again. I have never caught them sleeping this week.

We've got 3 chicks from the market today. Think its "Isa Brown" or something brown...couldn't catch what the seller was saying. The seller said the earliest time when they will start laying eggs is around Christmas time. We went to the nearest pet store and bought some chick start....hopefully 5Kg will be enough to last them for the 1st 3 weeks.

Craig setup them up in a foam box and put a light in it to provide heat for the chicks. Later when they are much bigger, we'll get them running in the garden. That means we have to make a chook pen....hmmm seems like a men's job to me. The chicks seems to like their new home, exploring every corner of it.

WA Guide Dog Open House

I had never been to such event before so this will be quite an eye opener for me.
The Guide dogs are not supported by the WA government, so any donation will be good.

There are events for the young and old throughout the entire day. We went after lunch time and were just in time for the guide dog training demostration. After which, we attended a talk conducted by one of the guide dogs trainer. There are so much that I didn't know about guide dogs.....

This is the 1st time I had been to a Redbull Air Show and I'm quite impressed by it. Its bloody warm though. Its very exciting to have the planes flew over above you.

Be sure to head out early if you want to go for the show next year because parking is quite a headache.

This is my absolute favourite event of the year. It's a fantastic show at Clarmont showground which last for a week. There's plenty to keep you busy the entire day, ranging from animal shows and judging (my favourite is the sheepdog demostration), there's display of cakes deco (depending on the theme), transportation display, free food tasting, horse riding demostration and not to forget shopping for showbags!!!
When the sun sets, get yourself a good spot and watch the amazing fireworks which last about 15mins and there's still time to go around on the fun rides and games stalls! What a fantastic day!

tickets cost $25 at door, you can get it cheaper from IGA or RAC (if you are a member).

It's my birthday and I had decided to go something dangerous and pump with adrenaline for my last 2x birthday. Since I refuse to do bungy jumping, the next closest I can think of is skydiving.

unfortunately, its all weather dependant for this sport and today aint the brightest and sunniest day you can find in winter. We just have to go and give it a try.

There is a lot of preparation work to do before hand. Because I am doing a tandem(meaning the guy who knows it all will jump off the plane "carrying" you), the instructor had to show me what are my "tasks", like lifting up my legs when we land and having a banana shape after we jump off the plane. We had to practice that for a few times to get familar. Next is to put on the gear....not the most stylish wear you can get.

The photos from here onwards required an additional fee of hundred ++ (can't remember). Because i'm getting it all capture in DVD, I get an additional person to go into the plane and all she does is to have a great time and take pictures and videos of me. How cool is such job???

the best part i reckon is the free falling, which only last about 7-10secs, trust me....it feels like my face is being massage by 10000hands!!!!

Month of Feb had been a very busy one, the GDCC project takes up alot of time and energy, the project has meet its time line and everything has gone quite smooth.

Now its time for the most deadful task- documentation. I have so much documention not done yet. Luckily for me, Harry is willing to burn his Sat and come help me work on the manuals. The weather today is perfect, its bright and sunny.............after thinking for a while, i decided to drag him to the botanic garden because it was written in the Shanghai Daily papers that the flowers(tao hua) is blooming.

However, when we are there, we never saw any Tao hua, but saw Mei Hua (Plum Blossom) instead. The smell of the flowers is so sweet smelling. And the garden is so huge and beautiful.

Today is the last day of the Lunar Chinese New year. Its called Yuan Xiao, also known as the Chinese Valentime's Day. The Shanghainese celebrated it with much joy and happiness. Its almost like the eve of Chinese New year in Singapore. I went to Cheng Huan Temple and the atomosphere here is fantastic. There's so much life and energy in this area.

Arrive in Shanghai this afternoon, the immigrations custom is unbelievable. Took 45 mins just to clear customs.

Shangri-la Shanghai looks good........but i can't say the same for the service. It cost a USD195 to stay in this hotel. Yet i wonder, what makes it 5-star really.

Went to KM's place, prepare dinner, it was a fantastic and sumptuous dinner. We had so much food and drinks. took about 2hrs to prepare dinner, started dinner around 8.30pm, Kelvin came around 9pm, which is good timing.

Ate and drink until midnight, a quiet countdown and into the Year 2006. Time flies in a flash.

Tsunami Killer Waves 2004

The tsunami in 2004 took away more than 10 000 lives in India, Maldives, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Sir Lanka, and many other smaller islands.

One year after the event, dreams are still shattered, homes are still destroyed, and hearts are still broken. Mother Nature, how cruel are you to us. We destroy Earth and you took away our human lives.

Video clips of the tsunami are shown on tv, interviews are conducted, families cried over again, 1 minute silence was observed in serveral countries, so, have we learn any lesson from this diaster?

It is disheartening to watch the after effect of the killer waves, heartbreaking to watch those tears fall down again from faces of the lost's kins, but it is more important to learn how to move on with life and make the best out of what we/they have now.

I had written a poem for the souls who left us, who was taken away by the killer waves, who reminded me how blessed i am to be sitting here, typing away.

This is for you

You may have left us, but you will be remembered

You may have been abandoned, but you will still be deeply loved.

Your soul will be prayed for, your courage will be honoured.

What a joyful yet hectic xmas eve. running around places, feels like chinese new year.

I had made a food hamper for Johali for xmas, with biscults and chocolates, to my surprise, it was his birthday on xmas day, so i'm glad i went today and got him the hamper. He looks so much more cheerful now and he can sits up right. His right leg got amputated from knee onwards and he needs 2 more operation to go. He has a fighter spirit, i know he will overcome all these.

Next stop, Sally's place. She has done a fantastic job preparing all the food , decorating the house and tree and not to forget Philip's contribution in it. Its all very tradition English kind of setup. There's mulled wine, mince pies, chips, crackers with smoked salmon, vege sticks, nuts, Austrian schnapps (Phil's from Austria and man the schnapps taste shocking!!!)

It was great fun and nothing but fun.

Dong Zi

Today is Dong Zhi.
So what is Dong zhi? i only know i had to eat tung yuan(marble-shaped glutinous rice ball) on this day, so i did a bit of research and here it goes:

The DONG ZHI is based on the solar term of the solar calendar, which is in this case, the 22nd solar term known also as dong zhi. It coincides with December 22 of the Gregorian calendar. Dong Zhi is the thanksgiving of the Chinese calendar. "Dong Zhi" literally means "arrival of winter". Coinciding with the winter solstice, it is an occasion for the family to get together to celebrate the good year they have had. Tang Yuan is cooked and eaten to symbolise unity and harmony within the family. Dong Zhi occurs 6 weeks before Chinese New Year and would normally fall between 21st Dec and 23rd Dec.

Tung Yuan in chinese sounds like "reunion". Yuan, which means “round” or “a circle”, is also an auspicious word that suggests perfection.

There is also another saying that goes "Chi tang yuan, da yi nian (Eat tang yuan and grow older by a year).”

So here are my tung yuan that i ate today. pretty yummy.

Blade for 20km in 90mins today, good achievement for cardio, then have Macdonales for lunch :O

Oh well....one must learn to treat oneself after a good workout, besides i'm not on diet or what, i love my curves and being healthy. So a good healthy meal is 100% better than skipping meals or being on diet.

i'm exhuasted after such a long blading time, but i'm going for yoga!!! woohoo....havn't been to yoga for 2months!!!! Gosh......

Kelvin's back for christmas, good to see him again, seem like he has put on lot of muscles. Khim Mun is still the same old same old guy.

had a good time catching up, though kelvin has been trying to be mean and talking mean the whole night. Went to see his friend, Brandon perform at the Esplanade after dinner and it was a good band.

Our last stop, a drink at Harry's. Terrible frozen passionfruit margarita, taste like medicine.

I finally got the shoes i wanted, spend some time hestiating here and there, oh well, there's a 20% off, so why not. a christmas present for myself.

Bought my wrapping paper this evening, came home and start my production work. Last year i gave my colleagues chocolates and sweets in a seethrough party paper, this year i shall use wrapping paper instead, so no one guess its me :))

I had prepare 32bags!!!!! took me 2hours and my back is aching now............. :(( well....so long as they are happy reciving it and appreciate it.....no complains.......i'm happy, how can anyone complain when they get presents??? Yes.........there are people like that i'm sure.

I had cut up the wrapping paper into 16 pieces, then fold them into a little bag,

stuff the sweets and chocolates(they get good stuff !! ) into the bag

and tie it with a wire tie..........

Christmas shopping

Finally i got my Christmas shopping done, it was so much work. Good that its out of the way now, hope all my receipients like the gifts.

to reward myself, i got myself the new album of Enya. i love the song Amarantine. played it the whole over and over again. i havn't got myself any CD for a long long long time. my CD collection are all so old....................MP3 fault.

i was so tempted to buy more CDs.........its like eating ice-cream.......you just more and more of it....

Should have gone blading................

Caught up with Sally, didn't went blading because i didn't bring along my blades. The weather is looking fantastic, should have gone blading.

We or rather, I, end up eating alot of Phat Thai. My punishment? Being very full and gain more grams....which is going to take me alot more time to lose.

Sally is getting a proper Xmas tree this sunday, so we went buying ormanents. Can't wait to see her Xmas tree. She has invited me to her place for traditional Xmas eve celebration.

Blading is a must next week...............

Hospital

I never like hospital. I hate the smell, the color , the nurses, the doctors.....even the toilets is scary.

I went to visit Johari tonight. His right leg was amputated from calve onwards. Wearing a collar support, he has to be on drip. His wife, brother are there massaging him.

Thank goodness he recongise me, which means he's conscious. But his condition is very bad.

I was surprise there's no TV for him to watch, its going to be so bored laying there the whole day and night. He complain he couldn't sleep at night at all. His wife said that the accident images keep surfacing. Poor guy, i hope he recovers fast.

Got a text tonight saying that Johari got into a bike accident. Seems like he's in a very bad state now. His right leg needs to be amputated. It got crushed by a truck on the expressway.

This is really bad.........his wife adviced no visitors at the moment.....

I hope he recovers fast...
